So You Want to Be a Champion?

//Are you willing to work hard and dedicate yourself to greatness?

Home  ›  General Information

The Karate USA Competition Team accepts all students who are willing to work hard, attend competitions in the Southeast, and who have a positive attitude and enjoy the spirit of competition.

Athletes must be at least 6 years old, hold a minimum rank of yellow belt, and own a complete set of Olympic sparring gear.  Notice: not all athletes are accepted into the competition team program.  We will give you a try out to determine whether you are ready or not.

Top 3 Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to attend every tournament?

Attending all tournaments is not required.  However, the more tournaments you attend the better you're going to get and the faster you're going to make progress. Note: If you're not competing consistently, you may be asked to relinquish your spot on the team as we grow and other athletes need more attention.

Is this dangerous?

Olympic sparring is more dangerous for students who only spar occasionally and are not fully trained.  The more training time you put in the better you get and the more you compete and gain experience the less your chance of injury.

As far as sports go, Olympic Taekwondo is safer (lower injury rate) than football, basketball, soccer, baseball, and many other common sports.  Bumps and bruises are common; injuries are rare.  Athlete safety is our highest priority.

Where do you compete?

We compete in AAU and USAT tournaments in the Southeast as well as the AAU National Championships wherever it is held (usually Ft. Lauderdale, FL).  We compete in GA, SC, TN, AL, & FL tournaments.  All tournaments are one day events except for Nationals so there is generally no hotel needed for the local tournaments, you just compete and drive home.
